August So Choix Unboxing | Tarte • Smashbox • Guerlain • Chanel

SoChoix is another subscription service that I found through @vadisrad. SoChoix is your online beauty counter where you can touch and try products without ever going to the store. I don’t know about you but the only place I haven’t felt judged when I asked for samples is at my local Sephora but it’s a tiny Sephora. What is cool about this service is that you choose the beauty products you’re interested in trying and they’ll measure out enough sample product for you to touch and try at home. You can either choose samples “a la carte” for $5 dollars each or the $15/month subscription (So Choix Elite Member) where you choose 5 products every month plus an extra $3 per additional sample.

As a So Choix Elite member you get many additional benefits when it comes to earning and redeeming your So Choix Elite points! Each month you earn 250 points (equal to $5 store credit every month), that can be accumulated (with no expiration!), stacked (up to $20), and redeemed towards any product at So Choix! You’re also eligible to earn bonus points on full-size product purchases, earn double and triple points on special offers, and more! You also get exclusive access to our So Choix Elite gift items where you can redeem points towards exclusive So Choix items, cosmetics bags, and premium samples!

This is what I picked out for this my August Box:

SMASHBOX Camera Ready BB Water Broad Spectrum SPF 30

💜 TARTE Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15

💜 GUERLAIN L’Or Pure Radiance Face Primer

💜 CHANEL Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base

💟 TARTE Timeless Smoothing Primer

So Choix so kindly sent me a another shade of

TARTE Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 $39.00

They had ran out of the shade I requested so they sent me another shade to try and then resent me the correct shade later, when it can back in stock! How cool! I love it when brands take these steps to make the customer happy. Not that I was mad or anything but thus really shows how high their standards and how much they value their customers! A++ in my book!

SMASHBOX Camera Ready BB Water Broad Spectrum SPF 30 $42.00

A sheer-to-medium BB water with a liquid-silk texture that delivers multiple benefits in just one drop.

This is such an interesting foundation. It’s thin in consistency but it does a really good job at evening the skin tone. What’s ever better about this foundation is that it’s not super dewy like other light coverage foundations (MUFE Face and Body old formula). This foundation still feels nice when my skin is more on the oily side.

MAC vs Smashbox

It’s been uncovered that the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water Broad Spectrum SPF 30 and MAC Studio Waterweight Foundation SPF30 are the same formula. I’ve manage to dig up the ingredients list and sure enough, they are the same. One thing to think about and, keep in mind I’m not a cosmetic chemist, but we still don’t know the exact percentages of these ingredients–with the exception of the added sunscreen. So, who knows, they may be different formulas. That being said, because sometimes I like to play devil’s advocate, the formulas are most likely dupes for each other.

I would definitely consider the full size. Whether it’s the Mac version or the Smashbox version, I haven’t decided but I can already tell that I really like the foundation because I’m wanting to use it when I’m out of my sample!

TARTE Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 $39.00

A lightweight, full-coverage hydrating foundation infused with tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea™ complex and non-chemical SPF 15 sunscreen.

I thought this was a nice foundation but no different then other BB creams that I’ve used. I’m happy with being able to test out this product cause now I’m not wondering if I want it or not so I won’t impulse buy.

GUERLAIN L’Or Pure Radiance Face Primer $74.00

A radiance concentrate for the face, containing pure gold complexion-perfecting flecks.

I do not understand the hype of this product. It’s essentially a very light moisturizer with useless flecks of gold. It is products like this that make me thankful that I tried a sample size!

***Side note: I starting using these products before I took pictures because I was that excited. I got way more of this primer then what is showed.

CHANEL Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base $50.00

The velvety finish of this light cream-gel bronzer leaves your skin with a beautiful sun-bathed look. Wear it on its own, or for a hint of outdoors radiance, over or under your favorite CHANEL foundation.

This is the product that pretty much sold me on getting this subscription box because I’ve been dying to try the bronzer ever since Jaclyn Hill raved about it! That being said it’s a great bronzer, it goes on smoothly, and it doesn’t disturb my foundation. This product is definitely worth the hype, however, it’s too light…which makes me a little sad. I don’t mind spending a little more money on something a truly love but I’m just so sad that this shade is too light. Oh well, at least I didn’t waste $50 on the full size , right?!

TARTE Timeless Smoothing Primer $39.00

A smoothing, makeup application primer that supports a youthful appearance.

Eh…It’s like any other primer I’ve used. This is a silicone-y pore filling primer that, in my opinion, is best suited for dry skin. I think it works fine but my e.l.f. Hydrating Face Primer works just as well for a fraction of the cost.

Overall, I think this subscription service is really cool! I was really excited to try out these products. I think this an awesome way to try out new products. My only con is that I feel like there selections are super limiting. There is a plethora of makeup products that I want to try but they aren’t on the website. If they don’t have great turn over of their product selection, I can see myself getting really bored with this box and eventually cancelling. We’ll see though!

Don’t forget to use Ebates! It gives you cash back for your online purchases! My biggest regret is not using this site sooner. Click here to sign up!

I will try to link products to websites with the highest cash back value! This is subject to change because sometimes the percentages fluctuate but I will try my best!
